Using the Weekly Lesson Plans - 4 Year

4 Year Curriculum

The Weekly Lesson Plans divide the curriculum into 36 week-long segments.  Since the 4 Year Curriculum is set up to be studied four times a week, it is up to you to decide how each week will look.  Planning this will depend on your schedule and your child's attention span.

For me, the easiest way to incorporate each of the objectives in a week's time is to post them on the refrigerator using the "I am Learning" Objective Poster.  In just a few minutes I can transfer the objectives on the lesson plans to the poster.  Think of the objective poster as a guide of what to cover throughout the week.  Then use normal, daily activities to teach the concepts.  View the Daily Schedule Examples  to see how we organize our day.

Many have desired to create more detailed lesson plans than what the "I am Learning" posters provide.  Although I caution you against overplanning, the ideas below will help you develop specific plans.  They are listed in order of detail and time involved (from least to most time spent).

&Idea #1 - Objective Poster

I created this poster because I needed a simple way to remember the weekly objectives (the goals in which I want to teach my child during the week's time).  By placing it on my refrigerator, I can easily glance to see what I want to teach my child that week.

I Am Learning 4 Year Old Curriculum Objective Poster

Think of the objective poster as a guide of what to cover throughout the week.  Then, use normal, daily activities to teach the concepts.  Here are a few examples:

  • Letter A - Eat strawberries and apricots, and look for the letter A in books and on signs.
  • Number 2 - Count pictures in books, objects around the house, body parts during bath time.  Look for the number 2 in books.
  • Book of the Week - Read this book before naptime each day this week.
  • Song - Sing while waiting for a meal to finish cooking.
  • Memory Verse -  Sing or say the verse while driving around town.

Idea #2 - "Highlighting the Lesson Plan" Example

Highlight Lesson Plan

The "Highlighting" idea works well if you would like to plan specific activities per day.

This example highlights directly in the lesson plan what you will teach each day, making notes along the sides, and using a different colored highlighter for each day and an additional color for items taught every day.
